Save Brighton Greenway
Dear SpeakOut! user
We the undersigned, oppose the Travelbea Marking development of a 24-unit townhouse complex at 960 Foul Bay Road. We request that the municipality of Oak Bay, the city of Victoria and the Province of British Columbia, consider the following related to the development:
–Safety of Brighton Greenway users including elderly and children in both Oak Bay and Victoria –Huge increase in traffic on a small residential street, with driveway entering/exiting directly onto the Brighton Greenway –Lack of transition of Greenway from Oak Bay to Victoria, posing a risk for pedestrians. –Greenspace including the preservation of all Garry Oaks and Garry Oak meadows, other trees, and loss of permeability and natural habitat –Oak Bay Official Community Plan and current Zoning requirements. The current development proposal woefully disregards zoning requirements, neighbourhood norms and the spirit of the OCP –Developer overreach, with 60-78 residents on a .82 acre lot, this puts the population density at 10-15 times greater than is typical of Oak Bay at present –Development doesn\’t consider recent nearby developments and proposed developmentsOther recent developments on Foul Bay and Quamichan, Oak Bay Ave. as well as other proposals and the overall increase in traffic, safety and livability –Heritage designation of the Samuel Maclure \”Lawson\” home –Consider a smaller development, more in-line with neighbourhood norms and the District\’s goals for sustainable development, and one that has the safety of Greenway users in mind.
